Of course, 'Mango' from Carnabys Crusaders totally stole the show at out Project Launch. Which is exactly how it should be!

The public support following the announcement of $3.3 million from the Amazon Right Now Climate Fund for critically needed resources for the cockatoos has been phenomenal.

Let's get planting!

Led by project partner Natural Area Management, the team quickly left their media celebrity status behind and got down to planting Banksias.

We are up to nearly 40,000 seedlings planted just a couple of weeks into the project, and will hit the 50,000 planting target for the year this week.

Getting the seedlings in as early as possible after the winter rains set in gives the most time to establish their roots before summmer.

Schools program

Planting with two of the partner schools has already been completed for the year, with more schools already lined up for the 2027 planting program.

Field research

The Banksias grow in soils that can be extremely water repellent - rainfall forms 'beads' on the surface and doesn't sink in. This means that seedlings can die despite good rains.

We are comparing planting methods and products to maximise Banksia survival for land-scale scale projects.
